About the group

The L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Young Talent Program Baltic region is organized to promote, enhance, and encourage the contribution of women pursuing research careers in Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia in the fields of life and physical sciences, environmental sciences, material sciences, mathematics, computer, and information sciences.

For Women In Science Program has been active in Baltic countries since 2005. Started in Latvia in 2005, the program has till now honored 57 Latvian women scientists. 8 of them have become Academics. Many have become professors, leading researchers, and/or manage scientific projects or departments.

In Estonia and Lithuania, the FWIS program started in 2017. Since then, 12 Lithuanian and 12 Estonian women scientists have been awarded. In 2019, Lithuanian 2017 award winner dr Urte Neniskyte and in 2021, dr Ieva Plikusiene, young talent of the Baltic regional program in 2021 were recognized as International Rising Talents among the 15 most promising young women scientists across all the countries where the Young Talent program is active. Since 2018, 2 Estonian Young Talents have been selected to be President of Young Academy of Sciences for the respective term. 1 of Estonian Young Talents has become a full member of the Estonian Academy of Sciences.


This is the only support program in Baltic states dedicated to women scientists, creating benefits for both science and society.

A space where Baltic alumnae can network and keep in touch with the L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Baltic Young Talents programme
