Changing the Equation: Securing STEM Future for Women, released for the G20 Women’s Empowerment Working Group.
STEM fields shape our world, yet women remain significantly underrepresented, making up only a third of students, employees, and innovators—and just 22% of STEM jobs in G20 countries.
When they do work in STEM, they earn 15% less than men on average and face higher risks of gender-based violence and discrimination.
Over the past 20 years, little progress has been made. Despite having equal abilities, women and girls continue to drop out at every stage of their STEM education and careers. To close this gap, STEM fields must become more accessible and attractive career choices.
This policy brief highlights concrete actions taken in G20 countries to enhance women’s aspiration, participation, and retention in STEM. What are these key strategies, and how can they drive real change?
