Dr. Tamara Elzein: A Trailblazer for Women in Science, Now Leading Lebanon's Environmental Future
It is with great happiness that we extend our sincere congratulations to Dr. Tamara Elzein, L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science International Rising Talent, on her nomination as Minister of Environment of Lebanon. This distinction reflects her unwavering commitment to science and environmental sustainability, as well as her remarkable career, which continues to inspire women scientists around the world.
Dr. Elzein joined the Lebanese Atomic Energy Commission (CNRS-L) in 2013 to establish a research unit focused on innovative materials for radioactive decontamination. and in 2022 she became the first woman to serve as Secretary-General of the Lebanese National Council for Scientific Research (CNRS-L) since its founding in 1962.
Dr. Elzein has also played a key role in advancing science through her leadership of the French-Lebanese committee for the PHC CEDRE programme and her presidency of the DAWReK'n National Observatory for the Leadership and Empowerment of Women in Research , under the patronage of the Lebanese National Commission for UNESCO in 2019.
Her appointment as Minister of Environment highlights the essential role of scientific expertise in shaping environmental policies. Dr. Elzein’s exceptional career serves as an inspiration for future generations of women scientists, showing that dedication and excellence can lead to unparalleled achievements.
