Dear L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Alumnae,

We are pleased to invite you to a webinar that is taking place on Thursday, 10 November 2022 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. (CET) to celebrate the World Science Day for Peace and Development, with the participation of  Professor Hailan Hu, 2022 Laureate for Asia and the Pacific.

Since its proclamation by UNESCO in 2001, World Science Day for Peace and Development has been celebrated on the same day each year to emphasize the fundamental role that science plays in society and the need to engage the general public in debates around topical scientific issues.

World Science Day highlights the importance of science in our daily lives, as well as the role that scientists play in expanding our knowledge of the planet, we call home and in building more sustainable societies. World Science Day for Peace and Development resonates with the UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science to ensure that basic scientific knowledge is widely shared and accessible to meet developmental challenges.

Celebrated this year as part of the International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development, which got under way on 8 July 2022, World Science Day will be an opportunity to enjoy a stimulating and informative webinar on this theme. During the webinar six eminent scientists from around the world and from different fields of basic science will discuss how their research has contributed to solving problems related to sustainable development

The webinar will be held on the Zoom platform in English, French and Spanish.
