Professional experience

Lecturer / researcher - school of life sciences and technology

Institut Teknologi Bandung

From April 2015 to Today

My research interest lies primarily in understanding and optimizing the interaction between aquaculture animals (fish, shrimp) and microbes (i.e. host-microbes interaction) in their environment / production systems.

Aquaculture microbial management and disease control techniques, along with aquaculture nutrition and development of production system and technologies is an important area of my research. Our research group focuses mainly on shrimp (vannamei) and tilapia commodities. Recent research includes improvement of vannamei shrimp and Nile tilapia production in close aquaculture system of Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS), Zero-water discharge (ZWD), Biofloc technology (BFT) and Hybrid (combination) systems, which all utilize different functional microbes (bacteria and microalgae). Other research focus includes the development and application of microbial and bioactive products (probiotics, prebiotics and synbiotics) as alternative to antibiotics for disease biocontrol and microbial management strategy in aquaculture production systems, in order to develop and implement resilient and sustainable aquaculture production that prioritizes not only the animal and the environment, but also human health as in the One Health notion, in Indonesia and globally.
