Scientist & head of immunocompromised host research
King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center , Riyadh
From March 2012 to Today
I have gained ample experience in immunology and virology during my post-graduate training. I have employed this expertise that I have accumulated from the USA and UK to excel in scientific issues directly related to patients. This approach fulfils the mission of the 2030 VISION in health care to perform research that will eventually lead to personalized medicine. 2012, I have established for the first time within my Institute, King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre, a program entitled “Immunocompromised Host Research”. My work in this field integrates multiple key aspects of immune defense, and has led to several new discoveries over the recent
years that have been published in leading biomedical research journals, such as the Journal for BMC, ASM, and the Journal of Virology. Recently, I have been taken the lead in developing a systems-biology based approach to the understanding immune defense mechanisms against infectious pathogens, and successfully uses this innovative technology to identify correlates of immune protection in in different diseases. I have established a strategic alliance between researchers from USA, UK and China to form what we believe to be the first-of-its-kind collaboration to research, training and education. That includes applying innovative and cutting-edge methodological approaches such as systems biology techniques, transcriptional profiling and large-scale genomic sequencing, this will be able to make an important contribution to the understanding of immunological pathways that govern immune deficiency, and to delineate new therapeutic interventions that can increase immune competence and reduce patient vulnerability to infectious diseases. I’m also involved in Research and developments (R&D) for infectious Disease.
