Professional experiences

Pavement engineer

Atkins , Birmingham - Permanent contract

From January 2022 to Today

In this role Diana has been involved in various projects related with maintenance and rehabilitation strategies for road infrastructure projects. For instance, in this role Diana has been involved in the "Concrete Maintenance Project". This project aims to define the assessment and treatment strategy for exposed pavement quality concrete (PQC) sections on the M25 Design, Build, Finance and Operate (DBFO) network. Diana analysed and organized the pavement condition data to contribute to the development of a mastery inventory to be used to make informed decisions to tackle the strategy.

Post-doctoral researcher

Universidad de los Andes (Bogotá, Colombia) - Fixed-term contract

From August 2018 to December 2021

This role involved conducting research on various topics related to emerging sustainable materials for pavement structures. Diana provided innovative solutions and implemented new strategies to target various unsolved issues. Diana supervised and coordinated graduate students working on different topics related to this project. Diana added value to this project by using her extensive knowledge from other similar projects to manage the various risks and issues that arise naturally in research projects. She supported the team in identifying the most appropriate solutions through regular, open communication and collaborative working. The outcomes of this project resulted in various scientific publications in indexed journals and international conferences within the transportation and road infrastructure sector.

Project engineer

INGETEC, Engineering Consultancy - Permanent contract

From March 2013 to March 2014

In this role, Diana was involved in the "Sogamoso Hydroelectric project ". This project included the definition of a strategy for the unstable condition of various slopes and asphalt concrete roads, around the Sogamoso Hydroelectric Project, located in the northeastern region of Colombia. Diana performed the analysis of the slope stability for various unstable zones and provided engineering solutions. In addition, Diana analysed road surface condition data, performed site visits to diagnose road distresses, and proposed rehabilitation and maintenance strategies at various locations. Through managing the various tasks proactively, Diana helped to enable the project to be completed on time as the original programme.

Research scientist

Universidad de los Andes (Bogotá, Colombia) - Permanent contract

From January 2011 to March 2012

In this position, Diana was involved in a project whose objective was to evaluate a natural sand-asphalt material to be used as part of the pavement structure for The Sun Route project, Zone 2 .This route constitutes one of the most important road infrastructure projects in Colombia, as it connects the coastal region with the center of the country. Diana coordinated all the laboratory activities for the detailed characterization of the material, conducted a comprehensive analysis of the data, and provided engineering solutions and recommendations on the use of this material at lower cost for low trafficked roads. Through managing the various tasks proactively, and with great commitment Diana helped to enable the project to be completed on time as the original programme.

Design engineer

ISOVIAL - Engineering Consultancy - Fixed-term contract

From May 2010 to January 2011

In this role, Diana was involved in the "Rehabilitation of Los Alpes- Quipile road " project. This project included the definition of a strategy for the rehabilitation of 20km of the Los Alpes – Quipile road, located at 154 mi north-west of Bogotá, Colombia’s capital city. Diana performed site visits to diagnose road surface conditions, analysed data, and proposed rehabilitation and maintenance strategies. Through her motivation and commitment, Diana helped the team to take informed decisions with all the data collected.
